Institut International de Lancy

Founded in 1903, Institut International de Lancy (IIL) is a private bilingual school in Geneva that combines academic excellence with citizenship. Formerly known as Collège Marie-Thérèse, IIL currently welcomes over 1,500 students aged 3 to 19, from nursery school to secondary education, and prepares them for the International Baccalaureate (IB) and French Baccalaureate. Through its French, British and Bilingual curricula, the school provides an innovative education in an international and multicultural environment. Balancing innovation and tradition, IIL offers each student a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs. More than a school, IIL is a multicultural, diverse and international community where children can flourish, learn, develop intellectual curiosity and be inspired by the school's core values of respect and tolerance.
‘Work and succeed together’ is the motto that defines IIL’s vision and guides its educational community.

Campus
Located near the centre of Geneva, IIL's leafy campus integrates historic buildings with modern facilities. Encouraging both academic success and personal development, the IIL campus offers students an environment conducive to learning and discovery. The collaborative workspaces, learning centre, multimedia rooms and top-class sports facilities give the students all the tools to reach their full potential and build the foundations for their future.

Diplomas
IIL prepares students for major diplomas, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, Brevet des Collèges and French Baccalaureate. Students can also follow a double curriculum when they enter seconde or première, in order to obtain both the American High School Diploma and the French Baccalaureate.

Our Language Approach
IIL is committed to promoting a bilingual and multicultural learning environment. Joining IIL is a chance for students to connect with a diverse, international community and to encounter a rich array of cultures and languages.

Innovation
A pioneer in Switzerland in the integration of science and digital technology in education, IIL has a STEAM Lab dedicated to scientific, technological and creative activities. Students can develop and put to use cross-disciplinary skills such as project management, teamwork and problem solving. Through collaborative teaching practices that leave plenty of room for creativity and imagination, IIL strives to ensure that students play an active role in their own learning.

Anti-Bullying Programme
In order to best support students in their schooling, and in line with its values of respect and tolerance, IIL has been actively committed to preventing bullying at school. As the first school to implement the Finish programme “KiVa”, IIL is recognised for its expertise in combating bullying. The KiVa programme goes beyond simple conflict resolution. It is based on three pillars: prevention, intervention and monitoring. All IIL Primary and Secondary students are provided with preventive courses encouraging empathy, tolerance, respect for differences and kindness. This programme extends outside the classroom as every staff member at IIL has been trained and empowered to identify and intervene in the event of bullying situations.

Early Years
The IIL Early Years programme, designed for children aged 3 to 6, provides a smooth transition from home to school and promotes the early learning of language skills. The French, British and Bilingual curricula meet the specific needs of younger students in a bespoke, nurturing and colourful environment.

Primary
The IIL Primary programme, designed for children aged 6 to 11, combines the acquisition of knowledge with the development of interpersonal skills, and gives children the tools and resources they need to grow and learn. Within the French, British and bilingual programmes, pupils develop independence, critical thinking and collaboration. Outside the classroom, they are encouraged to participate in a wide range of sporting, cultural and social activities.

Secondary
Two secondary school programmes are delivered at IIL for students aged 11 to 19.
The French programme follows the French National curriculum leading to the Brevet des Collèges and Baccalauréat diplomas.
The English programme follows the British National curriculum in preparation for the Cambridge IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate diplomas: IB, Bilingual IB (French and English) and Advanced Bilingual IB.
These programmes focus on students’ personal development and international exposure. Through a variety of local and international initiatives, students are encouraged to get actively involved in charitable projects and global issues. They are guided in their social and emotional development and supported in preparing for their future.
